Week Six - Amazing kids

Thanks everyone for your ongoing support and keeping your kids active!!!! I was going through some of my many, many publications and papers regarding coaching and RG...you can imagine that 30 years (I started coaching at 18) can create alot of paper... it became a bit of humour at times as I say that theory 30 years ago has been changed two or three times, and some of it is back in the 2011 programs. One of my favorite facts, is that skipping everyday is similar to running, and you need to do less to get the same benefits. So as you will see we incorporate skipping in all our programs and the look on a childs face when they have succeeded in skipping is my favorite face.

Just a few cudos for members of our club - Coaches - thank you to Karley, Leanne, Jayna, Lexus for their consistent positive and challenging manner they lead the gymnasts. Caroline Hoffman has decided to challenge herself into the National Stream level for the upcoming season, which is a big demand on time and training for someone in their graduation year. She is progress amazingly, and enjoying additional help and environment by travelling to Vernon and training with their Coach Camille and some National Team members.

And to all the little ones you are the highlight of my week, your energy and enthusiasm keeps me young and looking forward to seeing you perform at the upcoming events.

Congrats to our different group members, you will all be performing at the Snowflake event December 10, 2011. As will all our 30 plus members- Keep the date open and we will inform you of costume and routines and schedule in the next couple of weeks.

I have found some amazing insight into choreography late in my life, and I am so glad to have strongly connected to our senior group of Alex, Cairo, Carly, Emma and Zoe your energy and kind feedback are making the routine come together so quickly and it will be awesome.

Next week we will have order forms for tracksuits and for equipment... Please place your orders by email and payment can be credit card or cheque. We will also be having a photography session in November team and individual. These will be ready before Christmas.

We have run this club as a not for profit society for the past 2 years, and hope that there are some parents able to come to our AGM on Monday November 21, 2011 5 pm - 6 pm. There are exciting events and trips planned for this season, so do come, hear about it and give your energy to your daughters program.

Any questions or comments - don't hesitate to call, I love to hear from you all

Wow what a year we will all make!!!!

The weeks are flying by, and the gym is filled with kids having fun, motivated coaches and challenged kids. Me, I have spent somewhat less time in the gym than usual, but thats because I have been so very involved in planning what looks to be the best year yet.

Here are a glimpse of some of the events that club gymnasts will be involved in over the upcoming season.

Snowflake Invitational and Gala - Saturday December 18, 2010 at PISE... with visiting teams from the mainland and from Washington State.

Our Spring/Zone invitational and Gala also at PISE March 5 and 6th.

Fun Spring Break Camp for all ages. March 16 - 18.

Western Championships in Edmonton Alberta - Apr 27 - May 1st

Provincial Championships for Levels 1 - 4 athletes from all over BC at PISE June 11 to 13.

All these events will give opportunity for performance routines. As well we are organizing the following events, that we show our talents and be fundraisers as well.

And our biggest goal yet, for this club is to send 10 athletes to represent, Victoria, B.C., and Canada to the World Gymnaestraeda in Switzerland July 2011. We will be fundaising $ 20,000 over the upcoming season. This event will inspire all of us to be an even bigger and better club.

Late May - 2 performances of all athletes in their routines, as well as acrobatics and possibly aerial stunts... These will be with lights and atmosphere here at Shoreline. Tickets will be $10.00 per person

Sunday November 28, 2010 2 pm - Our first Annual Princess Tea and Fashion show. This event will be a special afternoon for young ladies, with whimsical decor, high tea sandwiches and drinks all served by more adult princesses. Cost is $ 25.00 per person, if ordered by November 15, $30.00 if after that date.

When I talk about the fund raising element of these events, we truly appreciate your support of our club, in speaking with older gymnasts I remind them of the pride they have felt by the success of mature gymnasts. At Westerns 2010, (thank you all for your support) the success of Caroline Hoffmans Silver Medal in Clubs, is the result of Carolines hard work, and all of you and your kids. This is a not for profit club, that reinvests its fundraising to help current older gymnasts, who in turn inspire the little ones.

Caroline is currently our most senior gymnast but she is preceded with a wonderful group of women who she and her family helped support through their events. Thank you Caroline's family for the 9 years of support.

Over the next few weeks I will be emailing you some memories and quotes from gymnasts of the 80, 90, and the last decade. You will see how everyone's involvement made their lives full.

And thank you all so very much for being part of a passion, I never imagined I would have. As a child I was hospitalized for a year, my parents were given the hope I would walk again, but would always have physical limitations, probably arthritis, and most probably require a hip replacement by 45. Here I stand today, without any of those limitations, because a jr high teacher (thanks Barb Magi) introduced me to a sport and my coach, (thank you Monika Alde)who opened a world when I thought I couldn't be an athlete.

Check out the Victoria teams pics at National Gymnaestrada on Grace Clik photos.
http://www.graceclick.ca/photos/10gystrada/ See if you can find the aged 13 year old, still performing. (so maybe we call this year, "help send Barb to Europe"?? LOL

Each gymnast will receive 3 individual routines (within August & September) for competition & 2 group routines to perform in our circus show in November 2010.

The girls will be spending as much time as possible outdoors, Yoga, running (surrounding areas & chip trail), swimming, stretching, conditioning, team building games. We will be making photo albums to follow each gymnast’s progress. They will learn how to keep a “gym journal” & performance expressions & confidence. They will learn how to be responsible for their own things, how they use their time effectively & about the best nutrition to help them train & perform to the best of their ability. The girls will also learn injury prevention & competition preparation. Every Wednesday afternoon the girls will go out on a fun outdoor adventure with their coach!

This camp is organized on a 3 week basis; this is why everyone is required to attend all three. This way the camp can be continually challenging & developing for the girls.
