The weeks are flying by, and the gym is filled with kids having fun, motivated coaches and challenged kids. Me, I have spent somewhat less time in the gym than usual, but thats because I have been so very involved in planning what looks to be the best year yet.
Here are a glimpse of some of the events that club gymnasts will be involved in over the upcoming season.
Snowflake Invitational and Gala - Saturday December 18, 2010 at PISE... with visiting teams from the mainland and from Washington State.
Our Spring/Zone invitational and Gala also at PISE March 5 and 6th.
Fun Spring Break Camp for all ages. March 16 - 18.
Western Championships in Edmonton Alberta - Apr 27 - May 1st
Provincial Championships for Levels 1 - 4 athletes from all over BC at PISE June 11 to 13.
All these events will give opportunity for performance routines. As well we are organizing the following events, that we show our talents and be fundraisers as well.
And our biggest goal yet, for this club is to send 10 athletes to represent, Victoria, B.C., and Canada to the World Gymnaestraeda in Switzerland July 2011. We will be fundaising $ 20,000 over the upcoming season. This event will inspire all of us to be an even bigger and better club.
Late May - 2 performances of all athletes in their routines, as well as acrobatics and possibly aerial stunts... These will be with lights and atmosphere here at Shoreline. Tickets will be $10.00 per person
Sunday November 28, 2010 2 pm - Our first Annual Princess Tea and Fashion show. This event will be a special afternoon for young ladies, with whimsical decor, high tea sandwiches and drinks all served by more adult princesses. Cost is $ 25.00 per person, if ordered by November 15, $30.00 if after that date.
When I talk about the fund raising element of these events, we truly appreciate your support of our club, in speaking with older gymnasts I remind them of the pride they have felt by the success of mature gymnasts. At Westerns 2010, (thank you all for your support) the success of Caroline Hoffmans Silver Medal in Clubs, is the result of Carolines hard work, and all of you and your kids. This is a not for profit club, that reinvests its fundraising to help current older gymnasts, who in turn inspire the little ones.
Caroline is currently our most senior gymnast but she is preceded with a wonderful group of women who she and her family helped support through their events. Thank you Caroline's family for the 9 years of support.
Over the next few weeks I will be emailing you some memories and quotes from gymnasts of the 80, 90, and the last decade. You will see how everyone's involvement made their lives full.
And thank you all so very much for being part of a passion, I never imagined I would have. As a child I was hospitalized for a year, my parents were given the hope I would walk again, but would always have physical limitations, probably arthritis, and most probably require a hip replacement by 45. Here I stand today, without any of those limitations, because a jr high teacher (thanks Barb Magi) introduced me to a sport and my coach, (thank you Monika Alde)who opened a world when I thought I couldn't be an athlete.
Check out the Victoria teams pics at National Gymnaestrada on Grace Clik photos.
