new communication via this blog

The intent of this blog, is to share my 30 plus years of coaching kids and youth, through the sport of rhythmic Gymnastics. My love for this activity started when I was a clumsy, awkward girl of 13 years old. Due to some health issues as a child, I had not participated in organized sports, and found dance boring. When I started at Shoreline School in Grade 8 our PE teacher Mrs. Magi started a Jazz Dance and Rhythmic Gymnastics Club and I joined. That was it I was hooked, from there I started at the ROAR club with Mrs. Monika Alde, where I training and competed for 5 years, and later performed at Expo 86 with a group from UVIC. The opportunity was fun and I learned to be healthy and active, enjoyed the people and the travel and the goal setting and so on.

My philosphy has evolved over the 30 years I have coached (starting when I was 16). Early on, I really connected with the kids and enjoyed their ongoing energy. Today that is one of many highlights Rhythmic Gymnastics, I enjoy. The learning curve has been huge. When I started this sport was about learning flexibility and stength and apparatus. But it really is much more. Rhythmic Gymnastics for beginners gives them skills that transfer to so many other sports, which is the big reason to try a class, you will gain balance, flexibility, strength, as well as better posture and control, and great hand eye coordination. So many of the kids I have coached, go on to be excellent gymnasts, and also capable athletes in a variety of sports. They also gain confidence, once you perform for people at the age of 5, there really is no holding you back. As well we strive to create and encourage a very round lifestyle, involving family, friends, values, education and personal skills for success.

This is just the start. This blog will be helping me express all the great things about Rhythmic Gymnastics and my journey to document my experience into a training program for kids through adults.

Enjoy,
Barb
